Anyone who says they only have one life to live must have never read a book.
Want to escape this world and enter a new one? Do you have dreams of becoming a famous novelist and need help pursuing them? Or do you just want to get away every now and then? TJ’s Librarian Michelle Jensen and some of your peers at Thomas Jefferson are offering students a chance to fulfill their dreams. Every Monday at lunch they are welcoming anyone of all ages into TJ’s Book Club.
While having many different choices when it comes to reading, entering the specific world of fiction, readers come across books such as mysteries, fantasy, science fiction, and historical fiction, just to name a few. Looking for more? Grab a non-fiction book, with the choices of autobiography, biography and informational. Want something that gets the mind thinking outside the box? Grab a poetry book. Jensen says that reading is what one makes of it. “I love reading; you can’t do much without reading,” Jensen says.
When people hear “Book Club,” they may automatically think about reading academic literature non-stop, but when joining this club, members read books of their own choosing, and sometimes they even get advanced copies of books from the Tattered Cover Book Store. The Well Read Spartans website is a blog of books and examples of what the club represents. Members are not just reading thousands of words, as a group everyone comes together to talk and blog about the books They are reading.
Book Club inspires students who have the dream to become writers or novelists by allowing them to ask questions. Member Chimi Youdon says, “I love reading fiction books, and when I meet young authors I’m inspired!”
