On September 27th the Boys’ Tennis Team faced off against Cherokee Trail High School on the home courts in several tough matches, with an overall score of 2-5.

The team has been on a roll with four consecutive wins that gives the guys high spirits and a chance to make it to playoffs. “The team is pumped at having won the matches that give them a pass into the playoffs, but Cherokee Trail is a tough school to beat. This was not going to be an easy match,” said Head Coach Tim Cueva.

Indeed, Cherokee Trail has held out with an impressive team score of 6-1, only losing to Mullen High School. However, this did not stop the guys from putting forward their best foot and fighting until the end. “This match was the worst match I’ve had in awhile but it’s not going to stop me from trying to beat East,” said James Bayarsaihan the #3 singles on the team.

“We couldn’t pull a win this time. Cherokee Trail has a very good team that was no match for us. We hope this loss won’t affect the team for the East match,” said the #1 singles player Andrew Becker. Despite the loss, the team is pumped for their match against East that is just around the corner. “Losing hurts. But it’s not something that can bring us down easily. Another tough match that is coming up is against East High School. We have high hopes in beating them,” said Cueva.

The team did make some progress when Dominic Murray, the #2 singles player, won his match, which was an intense one to watch with a score of 6-4, 6-4. “This is a developing year for me. Earlier in the season I lost a few of my matches but throughout the season I have been trying to get better. This match was definitely a high point in my high school career. Winning this gives me hope in going to state,” said Murray.

The next match is against East at TJ, and this one is guaranteed to be a good watch, so come support the tennis team at its home courts on September 28th at 4:00 p.m.!
