Girls’ Basketball wins 4A Denver Prep League
It was an intense night for basketball, the double-header against South, the dedication ceremony to Coach Steve Thomas, and Senior Night all ended with a team of happy players and fulfilled seniors.
On February 16, the girls pulled off an important W, beating rival Denver South High School 45-43, with an intense, game-wining shot by Freshman, Essence Reece. “That was really exciting! That game winner was great, but the team worked even harder,” said Reece, nearly in tears and proud of her team for making the playoffs.
The Spartan girls’ basketball not only became 4A League champs but also get a spot in the playoffs. “We worked real hard and played well; it was apparent how much we wanted this spot,” said Assistant Coach Kyler Jackson.
The girls continued to impress as they also beat the North Vikings on February 17th, 51-26. “The team shared the ball, almost everyone on the team scored,” said Becca Randall who had 10 points on the night.
The Spartans end the regular season with a 13-10 overall record and 7-1 against league rivals. The girls ended the season on a 5-0 run. “This isn’t the end; we want to keep going further and win championships,” says Randall. The girls host 1st round playoffs Wednesday, February 22, against 10- 13 Discovery Canyon.
