Hair Dye has always helped people express themselves, and a new color fun for anyone who wishes to partake.
The concept of hair dye has been around for centuries; however, the opinions and the technicalities of this personal expression have continuously changed. As early as 1500 BC, hair dye was around mostly to represent status in a civilization, and the dye was created from plants like indigo or tumeric. Today, there are hundreds of different hair dye brands and thousands of colors to choose from. Though it has become more popular over the years, people still frequently ask those who dye their hair why they choose to do so. Personally, I dyed my hair for the first time last month, and the question I was asked by both my parents and my siblings was simple, “But why?” This question left me intrigued by why people dye their hair because I didn’t have a good answer to this question (other than the fact that I wanted to.) The best reason I came up with while searching for an answer was that hair dye helps people express themselves.
Some individuals do not feel the most themselves inside the body in which they were born. Similarly, some do not feel confident in their appearance as they get older and their hair begins to turn gray. Hair dye helps people in all kinds of these situations. Whether it’s pink, blue, or a natural brunette color, hair dye can help people to feel more like themselves. Personally, I didn’t dislike my hair, but I wanted a way to express my style a bit in additional ways other than my clothes or jewelry. I had always thought the concept of dying my hair was interesting, but I had never thought about changing my own hair until this year.
People often warn that dying your hair too frequently is very damaging and that bleach is going to “burn your hair.” While it’s true that over time, constant hair dye and the application of bleach will cause hair damage, acknowledging that an occasional use of hair dye won’t immediately ruin your hair is important. Additionally, another worry posed is that hair dye will stain clothes or even your bathroom sink, but most hair dyes will not stain your clothes or your sink, especially not after it is applied and washed out of your hair. This can be further prevented by using a color sealant. The experience of dying your hair outweighs the potential damage that could be caused to your hair. I had my older sisters help to dye my hair for the first time, and this was a great experience that left me with many fun memories.
I would strongly suggest hair dye to anyone who is interested, even if they are concerned about how they may be perceived by others. Hair dye is intimidating, especially because the concept of something being “permanent” can be scary. This should not provide reason for anyone to shy away from the idea. Most dyes do not last long, and some semi permanent ones can last around a mere three weeks. If you don’t end up enjoying your new hair color, there are products like color-remover that can help remove the dye in a timely manner. If someone is nervous to dye their hair for the first time, there are plenty of resources to help with a step-by-step procedure online, as well as plenty of people in salons or hair dye stores that can help give directions.
If you have ever been interested in dying your hair, I, and I’m sure many others around the world, would strongly recommend it. Dying your hair can be a fun experience that helps you learn about yourself, and how you feel comfortable expressing yourself. My only warning is to be prepared for the worst step: choosing a color in a store full of hundreds of them.
