Coming back from break, the Lady Spartan Swim team jumped right back into the pool.

On Tuesday January 10th, the swimmers took place in the Valor Christian Invite. A total of 18 teams competed in this event, taking place at the Colorado School of the Mines. Along with Thomas Jefferson were other schools such as ThunderRidge, Ponderosa, Arapahoe, Regis Jesuit, Rock Canyon, St. Mary’s Academy, Columbine, George Washington, Regis Jesuit, Colorado Academy, and Valor Christian.

The Spartan team faired well against the tough teams from around the state, finishing in 8th place out of 18 teams. Senior Captain Hall Hupperts felt that team did a good altogether. “We are swimming really well as a team and are really helping each other out,” commented Hupperts. “It is really important to be close as a team. The other teams aren’t looking out for us, so it is crucial that we look out for each other,” she added.

After their good showing in the Valor Christian invite, the ladies came back to TJ, preparing to face their DPS rivals, the East Angels. “We always are excited when we are about to face the [East] Angels. We know it will be a tough match, but it is always a thrill,” Hupperts said.

The team performed with grit, but came up short, losing 139-44. Diving seemed to be the strong area for the Spartans, with Junior Colette Hernandez stealing 2nd place from the Angels. “I was super excited and happy that I did so well in the diving,” commented Hernandez. “It was good because I swam the 100M Butterfly earlier and didn’t do so well, so I was happy to show my stuff when it came to diving.”

The girls look to get back on the winning track with their next meet which will be Friday and Saturday January 16 & 17, taking place in the Jeffco Invite at Myers Pool.
