The Lady Spartans softball team started early on August 21st against Monarch, and since then have won two games and have lost four.

On Tuesday, September 4th, the softball team played Montbello High School and got the win with a score of 16-0.  “Even though we demolished Montbello, it really brought us together as a team and prepared us for a big game against Lincoln. It gave us a chance to get all our kinks out and work on our weaknesses,” said Sophomore Kelly Cordes.

Two triples were hit in the game, one each coming from Senior Sadye Hazan and  Cordes.

On August 30th, the ladies faced off against Conifer High School. The Spartans had a great first inning by scoring the first run, and held off the Lady Wolves for five innings. However, the one run that they earned in the first inning would be their only run in the game, and they eventually fell short losing 7-1. “The past six games, especially against the better teams, have been rough and a little disappointing,” said Junior Starting Pitcher Allyson Grywusiewicz, who pitched her best game of the season against Conifer. “We get so excited going into the games, and when someone makes a mistake, we shut down and give up.”

The Lady Spartans also went head to head with Green Mountain High School on August 27. They gave it their all but couldn’t pull through with a win, losing 12-2.

On August 25thhe Spartan softball team took on Gateway High School and beat them with an outstanding score of 23-0. “It really wasn’t much of a game, to say the least. We were a better team, and we took advantage of that, with only a few mistakes.  We easily demolished Gateway, and had a few stat-boosting hits along the way. It was one of those games where you can take what you’ve learned and apply it into a game situation and work on it without too much resistance. All in all I think it went quite well,” said an enthusiastic Grywusiewicz.

The Lady Spartans didn’t stop there, either. They had yet another close game with the Fort Lupton Blue Devils on Friday, August 24th. They kept a close game the entire time. However, they couldn’t get their bats going long enough to keep a lead, and lost 7-4. “The last five games have been like going to the dentist because they have been so painful,” stated a frustrated Head Coach, Kyler Jackson.

The softball season officially started on Tuesday August 21, 2012 with a game against the ladies from Monarch. The Lady Spartans tried to stay with the team from Monarch High School but couldn’t keep up, losing with a score of 10-4. “I think we were all a little nervous for it being our first game and we just couldn’t shake our jitters which ended up costing us the game,” Senior First Baseman Sadye Hazan said.

“We work so hard in practice. Now all we have to do is incorporate that into games like we should have in the first five games. We have to stick together and lock it down before Lincoln, and make sure that we don’t repeat those last five games,” said a hopeful Grywusiewicz. The ladies next big game is against their long time rivals, the Abraham Lincoln Lancers, on Thursday September 6th.
