Lady Spartans Come Up Short

The girls’ hoop squad comes back from break to take on state ranked Kent, and comes up short after hard work.

On Wednesday January 9^th  the Thomas Jefferson Spartans lost to Kent Denver during a non-league game, with a score of 41-34.

This was the Spartans’ first game back after break, and  they started of with a quick lead , but at the end of the half the Spartans found themselves in trouble as Kent pulled away. During a halftime lecture. the girls were told to turn the game around and get a win by playing smart basketball.

When they came out in the 3^rd quarter the Spartans went on a quick 10-5 run, but could not come out with a victory. “We were slow and sluggish, we did not execute our offensive plays that well.  We had the chance when we took a lead, but late in the fourth quarter a charge was called against us and gave our opponents the ball back, and they made their free throws, which was the final margin in the game,” said Coach Damion Allen, who continues to believe in his team. “For our next game,” he said, “We need to make our free throws and execute better in our offensive sets.”

Senior Jacquiline Waring talks about the beginning of the New Year and a new start. “This game was our first game back and it was hard for us to adjust and get back at it again, we just need to put this game behind us and get some Win,” said the player of the game with three points and three rebounds.

Spartans play their next game at home against Aurora Central at 7  p.m. on Friday January 11, 13.
