On Saturday April 21st the Seniors of 2012 celebrated the approaching end of their high school careers by dancing the night away at Prom, which was held this year at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

After hard work, planning, and fundraising, the day finally came for Seniors to dress up, enjoy a nice dinner, and dance at the Prom. The dance began at 8:00 p.m., with students arriving soon after. The venue for the Prom on the Western facing wing of the museum overlooked the downtown skyline and city park, making for a very scenic view. The Space Odyssey exhibit was also opened for students to explore and observe throughout the evening. “The museum was much better than a lot of people thought it would be. Most people were skeptical about the venue, but as soon as you entered you knew it was a great choice. If you got tired of dancing you could just relax and browse the exhibits. It was a really, really great location,” said Senior Mitchell Moore.

At 10:30 pm everyone was called over to gather on the dance floor for the crowning of Prom King and Queen. This year’s nominees for King were: Nate Brewer, Ed Gloor, Mateo Rocha, and Raycell Rush. The nominees for Queen were: Becca Randall, Natalie Kimbrel, Ashlee Berry, and Alyssa Williams. After much anticipation, Nate Brewer was crowned as Prom King and Natalie Kimbrel as Prom Queen. “I was very excited to have won Prom Queen. It was the icing on the cake for Prom and my senior year. Prom was a really fun night, and winning Prom Queen was definitely my favorite part,” said Senior Kimbrel.

After a few last songs, seniors left the museum and headed back to TJ to go to the After Prom, provided by TJ Partners PTO. Buses picked students up from TJ at 12:00 am and shuttled them to Fun City where they could enjoy playing mini golf, laser tag, arcade games, a climbing wall, riding go-carts, and playing bowling and billiards. “After Prom was really fun, there was a ton of stuff to do. It was really fun to get to hang out with my friends in a fun environment. My favorite part was bowling because I really like to bowl, even though I’m not too good,” said Senior Cole Stewart.

At 1:30 a.m. everyone gathered for a raffle drawing to win coupons to local restaurants, cash prizes, and more coveted items such as iPads and new skis. “I loved everyone’s reaction when I won the iPad. It was the prize everyone – including myself – wanted to win, so that was pretty exciting,” said Senior Cody Anderson.

After a wildly successful prom and After Prom, at 4:00 a.m. the buses returned to Fun City and were reloaded with tired students who were then brought back to TJ. The class of 2012 brings the year to a close, checking prom off their list, and looking forward to graduation.
