Racing to the Finish Line

The Track Team traveled to Elizabeth for their first meet of the season against 17 other schools.

On Saturday March 12, 2011 TJ’s very own Track Team traveled to Elizabeth Colorado to participate in the Cardinal Invitational in which the Boys’ Varsity took 4th place overall and Girls Varsity took 9th place overall.

The Thomas Jefferson track team was one of the two high schools alongside Kennedy High School representing DPS schools at the Invitational. The DPS schools were joined by 16 other high schools from around Colorado. “For it being our first meet I think everyone did really well, two years ago we took second at this meet which was the best we’ve received but we’re working hard this year and both the boys and girls are showing a lot of promise,” said Track Coach Damian Allen.

Once there, many Spartans represented TJ very well. William Carter won the 100, Vanessa Gallepsi won the 100, and Jamal Shields won the 400 meter dash. “For a first meet of the year our Spartan Track & Field team really represented the true colors of Brown & Gold as a team. We have a vast amount of talent.  As of now we’re bursting at the seams to show our true capabilities. Our new and improved team is going to be a very tough competitor for our opponents,” said Team Member and Senior Brandon Tara of their first meet.

The team is working hard everyday out on the track field in order to do well this season.  Up next for the team is a DPS meet Wednesday March 16, 2011. “We’re really excited about Wednesday’s meet since it is the first DPS meet of the season, and it’s good for us to see how we measure up against other teams in our district,” said Coach Allen.

It clearly sounds like the team is ready for its meet on Wednesday, and could use the support from its fellow Spartans at All City Stadium at 3:30.
