Rough Patch for Spartans

The girls’ soccer team gets defeated three games in a row.

The Thomas Jefferson Girls’ Soccer Team played Arvada West, George Washington, and Standley Lake, with tough losses in all three games.

On Friday, April 20, 2012, the girls faced the Arvada West Wildcats, a Jefferson County School in a non-league match.  “We had them for the first 30 minutes of the game and when they scored their first goal, we just went downhill from there,” said Junior Rachel Uyemura.  The Wildcats then scored nine more goals after the first one, leaving the game with a final score of 10-1.  Junior Braelah McGinnis scored the lone goal for TJ towards the end of the match.  She was fouled inside of the 18-yard box and was given a penalty kick that flew under the goalie’s side.

The next week, the girls played George Washington, which was rescheduled to Wednesday, April 25, 2012.  The girls went to GW for the game, but couldn’t pull off the win, losing 6-0. “We didn’t come ready to play and we lacked intensity,” said Senior Abby Montgomery.

The next day, the girls went to Standley Lake.  Again, it was a tough game for the girls.  Standley Lake has a record of 8-3-2.  The final score of the game was 9-0.  Even though her team lost, Montgomery said she was still proud of her teammates.  “They were just a better team and we held them as best as we could,” said Montgomery.

The girls’ will have their next game on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 4:00 pm when they will be heading to West High School to play the Cowboys.
