Rumblin’ Over Rams

The TJ Basketball squad defeated the Green Mountain Rams 65-55.

Your very own Spartan basketball team went to battle against the Green Mountain Rams on Monday, December 7 and reigned victorious with a final score of 65-55.

In the first game of the season, the team certainly did not disappoint the packed TJ gym full of hopeful fans and students. TJ came out guns blazing in their first half scoring 32, and 21 in the second quarter alone, to start off the game against a very talented Green Mountain crew. At one point in the second quarter, the Spartans had a dominant, over 20 point lead against the Rams. “It was great for us to get ahead early so we could maintain our lead and put in some of our younger guys,” said Senior Ian Melnicoe.

Senior Point Guard Wesley Price brought a very fast-paced tone to the game and distributed the ball with confidence and precision. Price was able to feed the ball to the big men in the paint (Eric Andres, Nate Brewer, and Ian Melnicoe) who combined for 24 of the Spartans’ 65 total points. Price also put up double figures with points, scoring 12 on the night. When the area under the rim was jammed, the team was able to distribute the ball around the perimeter to find an open shot. Clutch points came from new arrivals to the squad, Jordan Roland and Isiah Toliver, in the second half to put the game out of the grasp of a building Rams squad.

The team hopes to take this momentum on to their next game against the Cherokee Trail Cougars who they play Wednesday night, December 8^th at 7:00 p.m. The team will be away for this game, but will need to continue having their supportive fan base, so make sure to not miss the action.
