As the school year winds down, seniors must begin to prepare for checkout day on May 17th, when they’ll complete a procedure packet in order to participate in the graduation ceremony and receive their diploma.  Principal Sandra Just said, “In the past years, several seniors were not able to participate in the graduation ceremony because they did not checkout properly. We, the administration, encourage students to take their time to do everything correctly so they’re able to walk on stage with the rest of their class.”

Tuesday, May 17th will be the seniors’ last day of classes, and they must attend every class for the entire period. They’ll start off my by picking up their senior packets from the counselors in the main hall at 7:15 a.m.  Attached will be the required checkout items such as the senior checkout/withdrawal form and the permanent address form. All cards and forms must be completed and returned to the counselors before the day is over.

Seniors must check the senior check out/withdrawal form and make sure it has their correct name and subjects in order. At some point during class, seniors must obtain a “PASS” or “FAIL” grade and a signature from each teacher for every class. If credit is received for independent study or for work study, this should be shown separately from the classroom grade given, with the number of credit hours clearly indicated.

Throughout the day, students must checkout with Librarian Sudi Stodola, making sure they have no overdue books and/or fees. The checkout packet requires a signature from the librarian.  Also, students must be cleared of all “HOLDS” and “FEES OWED” by Treasurer Derek Steffes to confirm that there is no money owed. Only cash will be accepted by the treasurer’s office and seniors must receive the treasurer’s stamp on the withdrawal form.

Afterwards, students must checkout with Future Center Advisor Tabitha Rocha regarding post-secondary plans. Seniors will have to report to their counselor,  Stephanie Stone (last names A-G), Erin Thompson (last names H-S), or Dawn Catalano (last names T-Z) before they leave by the end of the day.  The permanent address form, used by the Records Secretary Sue Phillips for transcripts, records and also saved for the class reunion committees, must be turned in to the counseling office, as well.

Prior to senior checkout, students should have completed the “Senior Survey” on their Naviance account. If not, it must be completed by the end of May 17th in order to finish the withdrawal procedure.

Wednesday, May 18th will be the senior final checkout. After they have checked out from classes, seniors must see their counselors for a final checkout, available between 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. only. Students will then receive a counselor card and proceed to the lunchroom to pick up their cap, gown, and graduation tickets. There will be a mandatory mini graduation rehearsal in the TJ auditorium from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

On Thursday May 26, the day of graduation, there will be a final graduation rehearsal at the Wells Fargo Theater (Colorado Convention Center) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Graduation will be at 7:00 p.m. that evening, but all seniors must arrive by 6:00 p.m., no later. Just said, “Don’t forget your cap and gown, because we won’t have spare ones. Please bring your stage ticket, but don’t bring your purse or backpack or cell phone. Congratulations to the class of 2011!”

If students have any questions or concerns they should contact their counselor in the counseling office.
