On Friday, April 22nd, the members of the class of 2011 celebrated the end of their high school careers at the long anticipated Senior Prom, which took place at Infinity Park in Glendale.

The venue represented the “Rumble in the Jungle” theme extremely well, with the ballroom surrounded with trees and pictures on the big screen in the front of the room.  The dance began at 8:00 p.m., with many different groups of enthused seniors and their dates arriving shortly after.  Tables with refreshments surrounded the dance floor to give students a break from all the dancing.  Prom attendees danced throughout the night to a great mix of music DJed by TJ’s own Kyler Jackson. “The dance was awesome! Everyone was in a dancing mood and having a great time,” said Senior Will Lopez.

Around 10:30, the seniors and their dates piled outside to the Jumbo-Tron to see who would be crowned TJ’s Prom King and Queen of 2011.  The nominees for king were: Brandon Tara, Wesley Price, Kevin Kumar, and Mario Ventrello. Nominees for queen were: Karisma Fears, Katie Boyer, Lauren Jorgensen, and Lauren Brueggeman.

After much anticipation, Lauren Jorgensen and Wesley Price were pronounced Prom King and Queen for 2011, graciously accepting their crowns and sashes.  “It feels amazing to be Prom Queen.  It was such a big honor to even be nominated, but to win was like icing on the cake of a great senior year,” said Jorgensen.

After the crowning, the dance began to wind down, ending at approximately 11:00 p.m.  The seniors then piled back into their cars and limos and headed towards TJ to hop onto the buses that would take them to After Prom at Fun City.  This year was the first time that After Prom was not held at TJ, so attendees were more than excited to get there.

The almost-graduates and their dates changed into their comfortable clothes – some even in custom-made shirts – then got in line to board one of the many buses ready to depart towards Fun City.

Fun City was chock full of fun and different activities that lasted all throughout the night and the next morning.  Laser Tag, Go-Karts, Mini-Golf, bowling, a climb wall, an entire arcade and more were all available for the seniors to go crazy with until 5:00 a.m.  Food and drinks were also offered throughout the night for students to enjoy.

As 5:00 a.m. drew near, exhausted seniors and their dates began to board the buses to take them back to TJ.  The After Prom event is put on by the parents of the senior class, and this year’s parents did not fail to impress.  “Our parents couldn’t have done more to give us a perfect After Prom! By having it somewhere other than the TJ gym shows how much extra hard work they put into making sure it would be a night to remember,” said Senior Casey Edelman.

The Senior Prom of 2011 was one to remember, as the seniors got to dance to good music at an exceptional venue, left a legacy at TJ by having their After Prom somewhere new, and got to enjoy the night even further by spending it with their friends and classmates with whom they’ve grown close to over the years.
