The 2025 awards season was filled with unexpected moments and unforgettable wins.

The start of the new year is one of the most exciting times for viewers given the many captivating award shows that take place. There are many different awards to be given, ranging from music awards to movie production awards. Although awards season is a fun time for viewers to enjoy celebrity looks and celebrate some of their favorite actors’ wins, there is often a lot of controversy surrounding these events. The 2025 award season was filled with viewers believing that a lot of the awards given were not well deserved and should have gone to another nominee. Despite viewer opinions on the winners, there were many monumental moments to highlight.

To start the season, the Golden Globes aired on Sunday, January 5th. This year, the show was hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, who brought out many laughs from the audience, coming as a breath of fresh air compared to previous years. The Golden Globes drew 9.3 million viewers, which was a slight decline from 2024, according to Nielsen data. One of the biggest achievements was for Demi Moore at the Golden Globes. She won her first ever acting award for her movie The Substance in the best performance by an actress in a motion picture category. The movie Flow, directed by Gints Zilbalodis, won best animated motion picture, which came as a shock because it was up against Disney’s Inside Out 2, which was a fairly popular movie among viewers. The popular movie Wicked also won an award for best cinematic and box office achievement, though it didn’t win an award during any other award shows. Since this was such a successful movie, it was controversial that Wicked only won an award at the Golden Globes.

Moving on from movie awards, the Grammys took place on Sunday, February 2nd. Comedian and TV host Trevor Noah returned to host the Grammys for the fifth year in a row, bringing hilarious new jokes and a welcoming presence to the award show. While the show was filled with fun, there was also, of course, some controversy that came along with it. One of the biggest controversies at this year’s Grammys was Beyonce winning her first Album of the Year award for her album Cowboy Carter. Many fans of the famous pop singer Billie Eilish were outraged by this win. They expressed their belief Eilish should have won due to how much work she put into her album Hit Me Hard And Soft and how proud she felt about it. However, looking past the controversy, rap and R&B artist Doechii made history by becoming the third woman to win a Grammy for Best Rap Album for her album Alligator Bites Never Heal. To add on to the excitement of the night, pop singers Sabrina Carpenter and Chappel Roan gave outstanding musical performances that wowed the audience.

While there were many controversies amongst fans, the awards shows were also filled with laughter and fun. From amazing performances to hilarious hosts, the award shows brought smiles to their crowds and to viewers at home. Audiences were amazed by seeing so many celebrities win their first ever awards. There were many accomplishments in the start of this year’s awards season, and there’s still so much more to come.
