Spartan soccer loses a heart-breaker against Aurora West College Prep Academy 1-0.

On Friday night, August 31st, the Thomas Jefferson Spartans boys’ soccer team went up against Aurora West College Prep Academy, coming up short with a score of 1-0. The team started out controlling the possession of the ball, but missed opportunities led to a draw after the first half. Early in the second half, Ruben Gutierrez from Aurora West scored, making it 1-0.
“ We played hard in the first half but lost our focus in the second. We tried to pull it together in the end, but we couldn’t quite get there,” Senior Goalkeeper, Colin Suzuki, stated. As time expired, the Spartans looked for any opportunity to score, but couldn’t pull through.
Head Coach, Jon Poole, spoke about his team’s performance. “We dominated for a good part of the game but couldn’t put it away. There were definitely some good things to take away from the game, but we just need to find a way to finish the opportunities we are given,” he said. The Spartans hope to rebound when they play Arvada High School, Wednesday, September 5th at Lakewood Memorial. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
