Win against North High School helps Spartan confidence, but a 3-2 loss against the West Cowboys leave the boys with a small chance at making playoffs.

Last Tuesday, October 12th, Spartan Soccer broke out of its losing streak, taking on North High School at North, and beating them 1-0.
The guys played yet another intense, nail-biting game, with no goals from either team throughout the entire game. The Spartans battled their hearts out in overtime, maintaining possession the few minutes they played. After eighty minutes of fighting for a win, the Spartans got an extremely deserved goal from Sophomore Midfielder Ty “Steve” Roder.
“They [TJ] showed real resolve during the game. They went through some adversary, and really banded together to get the win,” said Varsity Coach Jon Poole.
This win helped the Spartans’ confidence quite a bit, especially after the tough games the guys have been playing. “I think we played pretty well, and I was happy with how it ended. Hopefully we can keep it up for the remainder of the season,” said Junior Striker Mitch Moore.
Regrettably, the Spartan Soccer team just could not keep the positive energy alive, and lost to West two days later 3-2.
The guys started out strong, gaining a lead early scoring two goals within the first half by Sophomore Tyler Moehlman, scoring off of a breakaway, and Senior Johnny Simmer on a penalty kick.
The Spartans lost the momentum they had in the first half, and the Cowboys of West came back with three goals. “Basically, we’ve got no shot at playoffs. It was a tough loss, but we will remain positive about it,” said Poole.
The season isn’t over yet! Make sure to catch the guys again tonight against Kennedy High School at All City Fields at 5:30 p.m. Get out there and cheer the Spartans on for the win!
