Spartans ring in the new year with a spirit week and pep rally to rekindle school spirit and to celebrate winter sports.
Thomas Jefferson’s Leadership class is putting together a pep assembly to honor winter sports and winter athletes. With a pep assembly comes a spirit week, which will take place the week of the 19th through the 22nd. Students and faculty have Monday off due to Martin Luther King Day, so the festivities will begin on Tuesday. The themes for the rest of the week are: Tropical Tuesday, Generation Wednesday, Colorado Thursday, and, as always, TJ Friday. Each of the classes have a different decade assigned to them for Wednesdays: seniors dress in 50’s attire, juniors in 60’s, sophomores in 70’s, and freshman in 80’s.
The schedule for the week will be slightly different to accommodate the pep rally and the Honor Roll assembly: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will all follow a “Wednesday” schedule. Wednesday ends with typical office hours, Thursday ends with the Honor Roll assembly, and Friday will end with the pep rally. The Honor Roll assembly occurs every semester of each school year, honoring the students with a 3.0 GPA or higher as well as rewarding the students who maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher for three consecutive semesters with an academic letter.
Pep rallies often occur right before Homecoming, but Leadership has decided to have one this semester to recognize winter athletes, as the homecoming pep rally does for fall athletes, and to bring spirit to the students. Sophomore Macey Murray described, “The multiple spirit weeks and pep rallies that we have really bring the community together and they help us show our school spirit. They prove that TJ is one big family.”
As well as the pep rally and the honor roll assembly, next week the junior class will be participating in Challenge Day, an activity allowing juniors to talk to each other about their lives and any obstacles they face. This event will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing TJ’s students even closer. Next week’s festivities are planned for the students’ enjoyment, and the students are encouraged to take part in Spirit Week as well as the pep rally and Honor Roll assembly to support their peers and celebrate their achievements.
