Spartans Crush Cowboys

The Spartan Basketball team loses to Montbello and wins against West in last week’s games.

TJ basketball had another break-even week this week as far as wins and losses go, losing to the Montbello Warriors 44-40 on thursday and beating the West Cowboys 81-38 on Friday, February 11th.

Against Montbello, TJ had a defensive struggle against the Warriors, recording their second lowest points total on the season with 40. The Spartans were also able to hold Montbello to their lowest points total thus far in the season with some staunch defense from Ian Melnicoe and Nate Brewer. Wesley Price also had an impressive performance in this one, reeking havoc on the Warriors’ offense with five steals. Unfortunately, in the end the Spartans were unable to come out on top losing 44-40.

The next day on Friday, February 11th, the Spartans had a polar opposite performance, dominating the Cowboys of West up and down the court. The Spartans more than doubled their point total from the night before, and put up a season high 81 points against West. The Spartans also continued their defensive prowess, holding West to only 38 points. TJ’s players in the paint again had big games against the Cowboys, with Nate Brewer and Eric Andres racking up 16 points each, and freshman standout Treyvon Andres putting up 10.

The Spartans are looking to close out the season with some wins as they only have two more games left in the regular season. Their next game will be at home against tough 5A league opponent Lincoln on Tuesday, February 15h. “Lincoln will be a tough game. The team really needs to bring their A-Game if we’re going to win this one, but I’m confident that we will show up and perform,” says Senior Wesley Price about the upcoming game.
