On August 28th, TJ’s football team returned to the field for the first game of the season.

Last Friday, the TJ football team started their season off with a bang against North. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead without looking back, starting the season with a 43-0 win. Although the Spartans didn’t score in the second half, the first half points were enough to keep the team aggressive and the atmosphere exciting.

To start the scoring rally, Junior quarterback Dane Washington found junior Justin Vigil for a nine yard touchdown pass. Senior Ricardo Felipe kicking one of three successful extra point. Minutes later, sophomore Kahlil Clark ran the ball into the endzone for the second touchdown of the game followed by a third, returning an interception. By the end of the first quarter, the scoreboard read 23-0. Vigil continued his big night in the second quarter with an 80 yard punt return for a touchdown. The final scores came from a touchdown pass from Washington to junior Alex Kah as well as junior Donavaughn Baucom returning a fumble for a touchdown.

Members of The Legion, the newly formed student spirit section at events, were selected to go onto the field during halftime to participate in a game where gift cards were given away to the participants. This game, along with the full white-out of the Spartan crowd, kept the Spartans energetic and pumped up. After this game, the season looks very promising for the Spartans.
