The boys’ soccer team was defeated by George Washington High School 2-1 in double overtime, and won an important league game against Denver South High School 2-1.

On Tuesday, October 2, the Spartan boys’ soccer team lost to George Washington High School, and on Friday, October 5, were successful in beating 4A foes Denver South High School.
After a double overtime loss to Kent Denver the previous week, the Spartans’ hoped to rebound with a tough 5A DPS matchup against George Washington. The game started with a goal by Senior Midfielder Tyler Moehlman but the boys’ couldn’t sustain the lead and faltered by allowing a late second half goal. Going into overtime tied at 1-1, the boys’ allowed a penalty kick that captured the win for George Washington. “We played well for a majority of the game, but when it mattered the most we couldn’t hold it together,” stated Moehlman.
With the boys’ first 4A DPS game on Friday against Denver South, they stood at 4-5-1 on the season. Denver South took the lead on a free kick in the first half but the Spartan’ regained the goal with one of its own by Junior Forward Benton Moore. Later in the second half the boys’ took the lead with a nice shot by Senior Forward Pablo Rodriguez. The game ended in a 2-1 win for the Spartans as they hope to improve in league play. “We’ve had many guys working hard the past couple of weeks, and Friday’s result shows the hard work and dedication we have put in,” said Head Coach Jon Poole.
The two games put the boys’ soccer team at 5-5-1 on the season. An important away matchup against Denver North High School is the next opponent on Tuesday, October 9 at 4:00 p.m.
