This past Saturday, February 4th, the girls’ swim team competed in their biggest swim meet of the season, the City A meet.

The girls took fifth place overall with the nine other DPS schools competing as well.  Senior Kiera Classen and Sophomore Tatianna Gerlits swam their best times in their entire season.  “The girls did really well,” said Head Coach Cindy Allen.  In addition to coming in 5th for swimming, the Lady Spartan Swimmers came in 6th for diving,

“We also did really well for having the smallest team at the meet with only ten girls,” stated Allen, who said she was proud of her team.  Bigger teams included East and George Washington, TJ’s biggest rivals, coming in first and second place respectively.

In addition to the coach being proud, Junior Rachel Uyemura says that she is proud of her team.  “Everyone tried really hard,” said Uyemura.  “It was a really big competition.”

Although the season is over, there is next year for most of the swimmers.  “I can’t wait for next season,” says Uyemura.  “It’ll be my last year and I plan on making it my best year yet.”

Overall, the Lady Spartan Swimmers had both a rough and exciting swim season.  “We had a good season and we tried really hard, especially for having a lot of beginners,” said Uyemura.
