TJ’s Varsity football team fails to come out with the win against Heritage High.
On Thursday night September 16th, the Spartan football team geared up to play against Heritage at Littleton High School. The stands were full of supportive fans sporting their school’s colors, and chanting their cheers in unison. While there was a high level of sport and spirit, the game soon went downhill for the Spartans. The first half ended with Heritage in the lead 37-0. “It was definitely a bit of a downer to be losing by so much in such little time, but the crowd stayed positive and kept faith in the mighty Spartans,” said TJ Senior Marelle Davey.
There was a common belief among the Spartan fans that it was the early touchdown that brought down the football team’s momentum and focus. “No one was on their game and we all made mistakes. We need to come together and play football like we know how, and as a team,” said Senior Captain Robert McMacken.
By the fourth quarter, the team was able to pull it together, scoring a touchdown with less than four minutes left on the clock. Brandon Gonzales put the team on the scoreboard, and motivated the squad with his touchdown. “The guys really hustled and put a lot of effort into finishing the game off; we put up a fight in the end,” said McMacken.
The game ended 46-6 giving Heritage the win. The Spartans say they plan to work hard during practices and will come out with the victory for their next game against South High at All City Stadium on Friday, September 29th.
