TJ kicks off the new school year with a week of festivities.

It is a new school year, and Spartans are getting back into the groove of things by preparing for the 2018 Homecoming Spirit Week. The leadership class is continuing to work hard, creating unique and fun days to hype students up for homecoming on September 22nd. Monday will let students embrace their inner twenties spirit with Silent Movie day, followed by Inside Out day, a day to express their favorite emotions from the Pixar film. Wednesday will be Hollywood Star day, followed by Back to the Future day on Thursday. As always, Friday will be TJ day, so students can get excited for Homecoming by sporting their brown and gold attire. Assistant Principal Jon Poole explained, “My favorite day is going to have to be Wednesday because we have the powderpuff game and the bonfire together at night so I think it’s gonna have more people and more excitement and parents will be able to come see what it looks like which will be really fun.”

Leadership member and junior Drea Thompson, explained, “[Spirit Week] makes high school more fun, and it’s leading up to homecoming, which is probably the best part of the first semester.” TJ will have its usual, fun festivities like the pep assembly at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, the powderpuff game at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the bonfire at 7:00 p.m., and the homecoming football game on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at All City Stadium. Students looking for updates on the events should stay tuned into the Spartan Edition.

The proceeds from Homecoming tickets will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in order to help the fight against childhood cancer. The goal is to raise $20,000 by October 22nd, which is a challenge, but it is something the Spartans are aspiring to achieve. The grand prize for reaching the goal is a new gym floor, so Spartans are highly encouraged to donate.

Spirit week has always been a fun tradition for high schoolers, but TJ’s spirit is something that cannot be denied, so make sure to participate, show off some school spirit, and have fun!
