Sprinting to First Place

TJ’s Track and Field team goes to the Mountain Range High School Invitational for their 6th meet and comes away with impressive results.

On Saturday April 7^th, TJ’s Track and field team got on the bus and headed to Adams 12 North Stadium, for the Mountain Range Invitational in which girls’ medley took 5^th overall and the boys’ relay team brought the 1^st place trophy home.

Thomas Jefferson high school was alongside 16 other schools, and TJ’s rivals South and George Washington High Schools were also there. “I think that we did well as a team and worked hard together,” said Coach Ivory Allen, who is coaching for her first time at Thomas Jefferson High School, and says she cannot express how fun it is working with the enthusiastic track runners. Track has had six other meets this season, as well. “We’ve been pushing hard every meet and everyone has worked hard to get better times on all the events,” added Allen.

TJ track team represented TJ well this meet, especially Sophomore Abijah Cannonier, who came in 1^st overall in the 100. “It was really exciting to come in first place.  Competing against my long time rivals and beating them was a great feeling,” said Cannonier. Jamal Shields came in first in the 400, and the girls’ sprint medley came in 5^th overall. Also,Shields, Cannonier, Nate Brewer, and Raycell Royce came in first overall in relays.

TJ track and field have their one and only home track meet on Friday the 13th at All City Field, so make sure to go support TJ.
