On February 2nd, 2020 the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers for their first Super Bowl win since 1970.

On Sunday, February 2nd, 100 million viewers tuned in for the finale of the 2019-2020 NFL season. Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to a victory after a close game, and Jimmy Garapolo and the 49ers gave it their all. The event was held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL. The Chiefs were the American Football Conference (AFC) champions, and the San San Francisco 49ers were the National Football Conference (NFC) champions.

The game began with the 49ers winning the coin toss calling heads, and choosing to kick the ball to start off the game. The Chiefs were unable to convert a first down on their first drive forcing them to punt. The ball was turned over to the 49ers and they were able to create a few plays to give them a good field position for a goal. With the early lead, the 49ers showed the crowd that they meant business. However, down by three points, Mahomes led a strong drive for the first touchdown of the game, a QB scramble. Then the 49ers threw an interception shortly after obtaining the ball setting the Chiefs up to score. The Chiefs kicked their first field goal of the game. Finally, the momentum began for the 49ers retaliating with a few passes, setting up a touchdown pass. With that the 49ers tied the game up at 10-10.

The timer ran out for the first half, allowing the halftime show to commence. The lineup included Jennifer Lopez, her daughter Emme Lopez, Shakira, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin. This was the first year to showcase all Latinx artists, where they performed many songs including: “If You Had My Love” by Jennifer Lopez, and “On The Floor” by Lopez and Pitbull. The halftime show was a great performance which gave the two teams a break, before the riveting second half.

The 49ers started with the ball for the second half. They were able to convert a few first downs and kick a field goal, giving them the lead. Afterward, the Chiefs began to struggle. Mahomes threw his first interception of the game. After that big play, the 49ers went on to score giving them a ten point lead. The very next drive, Mahomes threw another interception. However, the 49ers began to have trouble when they were forced to punt t, and the Chiefs grasped the opportunity to score with a new possession. This was when the game shifted and the Chiefs began to make a comeback. Afterwards, the 49ers punted again after a bad drive and a couple of plays. With the possession they then scored again giving them the lead and making the game very close at 24-20. With the 49ers still holding on, they were unable to convert a fourth and ten drive. Garapollo was sacked, giving the Chiefs the ball again. They took the opportunity to seal the deal and score the final touchdown of the game. The 49ers were unable to convert for their last drive of the game and Garapollo threw an interception, guaranteeing the Chiefs victory over the 49ers after they ran out the clock. After the game, Mahomes was crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP), and the Kansas City Chiefs brought home the Lombardi trophy back to Missouri.

Super Bowl LIV was a riveting event to watch for sports fans around the world. Just like every year, some were satisfied, others were upset over the great game. It was the perfect end to the 2019 NFL season leading up to the 2020 NFL draft, and eventually the 2020 NFL season.
