The Lady Spartans first swim competition is right around the corner, and they are preparing for the best.
As the 2012-2013-swim season begins, the girls’ team is looking forward to an enjoyable season.
This year, 29 girls went out for the team, four being seniors and eight being freshmen. Head Coach Cindy Allen said she already sees great improvement. “We have several girls who have never swam before, but they come to every practice and they are already making great strides. They’re all fast learners,” said Allen.
As opposed to the seven swimmers the team finished with last year, Allen explained how nervous she was for this upcoming season. “Because we finished last year with only seven girls due to the lack of interest, I was nervous about the turnout for this year’s team,” stated Allen, who says the 29 girls are working hard, doing very well, and showing great growth.
Although the team has very few year-round swimmers, Allen finds it unlikely that the team will win City, but she does believe that several girls will do very well and that it will be an enjoyable year.
The girls will have their first meet of the season on Wednesday, November 28th. It will be a Tri-Meet, hosted by Lincoln with TJ competing against the Lancers and the East Angels. Allen predicts it will be a tough meet. “Lincoln sits at the same competition level as we do, so we should be neck and neck with them. East has a large and talented team so it should definitely be an interesting first meet,” explained Allen, who said that she never really knows how the team will perform until they are actually at the meet swimming.
This season is looking to be a fun one, so be sure to support the swim team and show your school spirit at their first meet on Wednesday at Lincoln.
