Thomas Jefferson Boys’ Golf sent the top four varsity players to Indian Tree Golf Course in Arvada on Monday, August 22nd for the Jefferson Academy Invitational Tournament. East, the only other DPS team there, won the overall tournament.

“This tournament is simply to gauge where all the teams are at early in the season…for regionals,” Head Coach Stacey Fornstrom said. The round got off early in the morning with a shotgun start for all of the players. As the day went on it became clear that Indian Tree was going to be a very tough course, as it is a very open course with extremely sloped greens which makes the short game much harder. “I couldn’t figure the slope of the greens out and it added some strokes to my score,” Junior golfer Ben Smiley dolefully stated.

Yet, the boys were able to get through these obstacles and shoot competitive scores of: 84 by Senior Cole Stewart, 86 by Junior Ben Smiley, 94 by Junior Matthew Fabian, and 95 by Senior Jaron Bartoszek.

The boy golfers have another tournament on August 24th at Kennedy Golf Course for a DPS League Meet.
