As Halloween approaches, what better way to celebrate than by watching a scary movie?  Sure, most have probably seen all the great classics such as Halloween, Poltergeist, and Hannibal, but have you ever seen these ten current ones?

Awake (2006) – When wealthy Clayton (Hayden Christensen, Jumper) is having heart transplant surgery by his doctor friend, Jack (Terrance Howard, Iron Man), he soon discovers something very frightening.  It seems as he is awake (but unable to move or talk) during his surgery, leading him to discover that Jack, and his girlfriend, Sam (Jessica Alba, Fantastic 4), plan to replace his heart with a worse one in hopes of killing him.

Bug (2006) – We all know bugs are creepy, but what if they lived inside of you?   When lonely Agnes (Ashley Jed, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood) moves into a rundown motel room, she meets Peter (Michael Shannon, Revolutionary Road), who takes a liking to her.  However, when they discover an aphid in their motel bed, Peter tells Agnes how the government implanted living bugs inside of him.

Drag Me to Hell (2009) – If you did not see this summer’s horror hit, you might want to drag it home, as it just got released on DVD.  When young Christine Brown (Alison Lohman, Flicka) does not let an elderly woman take out a loan, it results in a horrible curse that will eventually “drag her to hell.”  It is up to Christine, with the help of her boyfriend, Clay (Justin Long, He’s Just Not That Into You) to hopefully end the curse.

The Eye (2008) – 15 years after being blind her whole life, Sydney Wells (Jessica Alba, Fantastic 4), undergoes a cornea transplant, allowing her to see for the first time.  With her new set of eyes, however, Sydney begins to see frightening images and even ghosts of the departed that all seem to be warning her.

Haunting in Connecticut (2009) – The Haunting in Connecticut is based on the true story of a 1987 haunting in a Connecticut house.  When her sick son, Matt’s (Kyle Gallner, Jennifer’s Body) lymphoma seems to be getting worse, Sara Cambell (Virginia Madsen, Sideways) buys an old Connecticut funeral house, unaware it is haunted by an evil presence that hopes to possess Matt.  With the assistance of Reverend Popescu (Elias Koteas, Skinwalkers), Matt hopes to rid the house of the presence.

Hide and Seek (2005) – When Dr. David Callaway (Robert De Nero, Righteous Kill) and his daughter, Emily (Dakota Fanning, Push) move into a new house, it seems Emily makes a new friend, Charlie.  However, Charlie, happens to be invisible and once deaths start to happen, Emily starts to realize Charlie may not be as nice as she imagines.

The Midnight Meat Train – Horror mastermind, Clive Barker (Hellraiser) delivers this horrifying tale about Leon (Bradley Cooper, The Hangover), a photographer who ventures into New York’s subways system at night, hoping to capture the perfect photograph of the silent butcher, Mahogany (Vinnie Jones, Hellride).  What Leon soon discovers about this butcher, however, eventually turns into an obsession.  After seeing The Midnight Meat Train, most may never want to take a subway or even a light rail again, in fear Mahogany may also be on that ride.

The Strangers (2008) – When a couple, Kristen (Liv Tyler, The Incredible Hulk), and James (Scott Speedman, Underworld), go on a vacation in the summer house owned by James’ parents, their romantic night is soon disturbed by three silent, masked people.   It is how these masked strangers do not say a single word that makes them creepy.

Untraceable (2006) – After watching Untraceable, you might never want to try to Google killwithme.com.  When FBI agents, Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane, Nights in Rodanthe), and Griffin Dowd (Colin Hanks, The House Bunny) discover this site, they find out that not only does it show home videos of victims getting tortured, but also as the site gets more hits, the more painful and quickly their deaths happen.

When a Stranger Calls (2005) – Young Jill (Camilla Belle, Push) thinks babysitting the Mandrakis’ two children will be an easy job, as it is late at night when they are asleep.  However, once she gets a call telling her to check on the children, Jill is the victim in a game of cat and mouse with a stranger who seems to be making the calls from within the house.

As you are watching these scary movies on Halloween, try not to get too scared.  If having trouble going to bed afterwards, remember, it is only a movie…or is it?
