The Spartans traveled to D’Evelyn hungry and anxious to record their first win of the year, and fortunately for TJ, D’Evelyn was in no position to stop them. Junior Brennan Henry was on top of his game as he pitched all seven innings and allowed only two hits throughout the game. Henry allowed zero earned runs as well, but sloppy Spartan defense gave the Jaguars two cheap runs and kept Henry from recording the shutout.

The Spartan offensive attack was powered by Sophomore Pitcher/Outfielder Chris Van Dyke who hit a towering home run in the third inning. Senior Outfielder Sam Thomas contributed to the score as well when he drove in a couple runs in the sixth inning. The Spartans do have a reason to be proud, as they can now say they are one and zero against their own class rank. The three previous teams played were all 5A. “It felt great to get a win on the board and it really gives our team a lot of confidence as we continue on this season,” said Sophomore Outfielder Kyle Freeland.

The Spartans’ next game will be played today, Wednesday March 18, when they travel to Montbello to take on the rival Warriors in what should be an exciting game. The event will start at 4:15 so try to make it down to cheer on your Spartans.
