Pre-game Activities Sponsored by The Denver Broncos.
The Alumni and Friends of Thomas Jefferson High School Association is launching its 50th Anniversary Celebration with a tailgate party to precede the Homecoming Football Game against rival South High School on Friday, September 24. The game is a Denver Broncos’ High School Football Game of the Week, and the Broncos will be sponsoring many exciting pre-game activities.
Thomas Jefferson High School was one of three Denver Public Schools to open in the fall of 1960 to accommodate the rapidly growing population of Denver. For 50 years TJ has remained a school of excellence with its graduates attending our nation’s most prestigious universities. Recent graduates attend Harvard, Yale, Stanford, West Point, Dartmouth and Colorado College. Today, TJ is thriving with its students excelling in academics, athletics and the arts. TJ offers a wide variety of Honors, Advanced Placement and college credit courses, and is home to Denver’s most technologically-advanced and well-equipped media and communication magnet program: TJ Computer Magnet, The Center for Communications & Technology (CCT).
TJ has a 50-year tradition of outstanding athletics, which includes winning multiple state championships. In recent years, the football team has been the top team in DPS. TJ’s boys’ basketball team has won two state championship titles in the last five years, and the baseball team is consistently ranked as one of Colorado’s top teams. TJ is also home to a thriving arts program. The acclaimed Monticello Singers perform locally, and the drama program was recognized and celebrated last spring for its presentation of RENT.
Notable TJ alumni include: Award-Winning Author and Film-Maker David Breashears, Former Yahoo CEO Susan Decker, Olympic Gold Medalist Swimmer George Dicarlo, Major League Baseball Umpire Martin Foster, Denver Bronco Daniel Graham, Exclusive Resorts Founder Brent Handler, Green Bay Packer Derrick Martin, Denver Foundation President David Miller, Award-Winning Film-Maker Daniel Sladek, Former NY Mets Catcher John Stearns, University of Nebraska Neurosurgeon Dr. Bill Thorell, and many more.
TJ Alumni and Friends have much to celebrate! The Homecoming Tailgate Party will become an annual event for the association, where friends and alumni can meet each fall.
