The Spartans fell to the Rebels on Friday night, falling to Columbine 48-0.
The Spartans took the field Friday night energized and ready to make up for their week one loss to Monarch. However, it just was not in the cards for the Spartans as they fell to the number two ranked team in 5A football, the Columbine Rebels, by a score of 48-0.
TJ was never really able to settle down and exchange drives with Columbine, as the Rebels’ stingy defense forced TJ into numerous punts, as well as a few detrimental turnovers, including one in the Spartans’ own red zone. “Columbine just made us play their game and not ours,” said Senior Cornerback Jared Lewis.
The Spartans defense was also torched by the Rebel offense led by star Quarterback Danny Spond, who was most effective with rollout passes, that were able to catch the Spartans off guard, and open up throwing windows for him to hit his targets. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Thins like this happen at times, and we just have to use this as a lesson,” said Senior Fullback Valentino Lamorie
TJ will look to get on the right track when they next host the Montbello Warriors. The game will be played on Thursday, September 17 at All City Stadium. The matchup will be starting at 7:00 pm, so make sure to get down to All City to take on the Spartans as they go up against one of their biggest rivals.
