TJ took the field on Wednesday, March 18, anxious to get a win in their first conference game of the year. They did just that, defeating Montbello by a score of 12-1. The Spartans were lead on the mound by Sophomore Pitcher Chris Van Dyke, who pitched masterfully; allowing only one run in five innings.

The Spartan offense also helped Van Dyke out by providing early insurance. Seniors Sam Thomas and Robbie Folk each had a triple. Sophomore Austin Hearne also had a triple. But the play of the game  was Sam Thomas hitting only his second career home run. “Chris pitched very well.  He hit his zones and kept the pitch count low. Our team hit great, Sam especially. It was just a great win overall,” commented Sophomore First Baseman Kyle Freeland.

The Spartans will look to keep their hot bats going when they return to action on Saturday, March 20. The Spartans will be playing against the Chaparral Wolverines in what should be a tightly fought ball game. The first pitch will be thrown at 3:30, so make sure to get out to Spartan Field to support the Spartans in their home opener. Junior Brennan “Bubba” Henry will be the starting pitcher.
