The Spartans defeated the Montebllo Warriors 33-6 Thursday night, securing their first victory of the season.
Before a large crowd packed full of Spartan supporters, TJ had its way with the Montbello Warrior, picking up the win 33-6.
The Spartans drew first blood when Senior Quarterback Zach Jackson hooked up with Senior Wide Receiver Billy Sprague for a 63 yard touchdown pass. Then, on the ensuing Warrior possession, Senior Defensive Back Kyle Caruthers intercepted the football, and marched 36 yards for TJ’s first defensive touchdown of the young season.
After another strong drive, Junior Running Back Jamie Redd punched the ball into the end zone from only one yard out. At halftime, the Spartans lead by a score of 20-0. However, Montbello was able to get on the scoreboard in the third quarter on a 13 yard touchdown reception. TJ did answer back quickly though, as Senior Running Back Matt Averyhart broke off a 46-yard touchdown run. Billy Sprague later had a 25 yard run to the end zone. “This was a big win for us. We really wanted this one, and it’s good to get back on the right page,” said Senior Fullback Valentino Lamorie.
The Spartans will look to build upon this victory as they next play the Rangeview Rangers in the annual homecoming game. The game will be on Friday, September 25, and will start at 7:00 pm. As is the TJ tradition, the Senior Spartan players will be honored at half time, so make sure to get out to the game to root TJ on to victory.
