Tough Defeats for Girls’ Bball

Girls’ Basketball has trouble defeating difficult teams, losing to Niwot and Thornton High School.

On Monday and Tuesday the Lady Spartans went up against two very talented teams, Niwot and Thornton High Schools, and just could not pull through with the wins, losing 53-35 to Niwot and 62-51 to Thornton.

The girls managed to keep up with Thornton throughout both the first and second half, gaining the lead by a few points.  However, the momentum didn’t seem to keep up, and the girls began turning the ball over to Thornton.  Unfortunately, they lost the lead, and the buzzer sounded with a final score of 62-51.  “We keep turning really close games into 10 point losses.  We had a lot of turn over’s in this game,” said Head Coach Steve Thomas.

With the girls tired both mentally and physically, they had trouble with that same intensity they possessed in their previous game against Thornton.  In their first game of the Thunderhawks Hoop Fest 2010 tournament they’re currently in, the girls regrettably lost to Niwot with a score of 53-45.  “We played alright, but the girls were just tired.  It’s no excuse though, at one point we were only down by six points, we just couldn’t catch them,” Thomas said.

Despite the losses, it is still early in the season!  The girls play once again tomorrow at Prairie View High School to continue in the tournament.  They take on Arvada at 3:30, so if you’re interested in supporting your very own Lady Hoop Squad, be sure to catch a ride up there and cheer on your girls!
