The TJ Hoop Squad is playing its best basketball of the season, and it happens to be at just the right time as the Spartans head into divisional play against their Denver Prep League rivals.

On Thursday night the Spartans traveled to Westminster to take on the Wolves and were in the driver’s seat from the tip-off. At the end of the first quarter the Spartans were up 23-11, and 42-21 at halftime.

A strong part of TJ’s success was their outstanding shooting. Ray Riley and Chris Carter were on fire from the three-point line, combining for seven three-pointers in the game. Riley knocked down four from downtown for 66.7% on the night and Carter hit three for 50%.

Billy Sprague also put in an all-around superior effort scoring 12 points on 71.4% shooting, dishing four assists, and pulling down eight rebounds.

By the fourth quarter neither Sprague, Riley, or Carter received much playing time due to the lopsided score. Riley finished with 23 on 50% shooting and Carter finished with 19 on 80%, only missing one shot from inside the arc. Jamel Compton also played a great game, notching nine points and four steals in the 90-63 TJ victory.

With a record of 10-4 the Spartans are looking ready to play their final non-league game against Grand Junction on Tuesday, January 20, at 7 pm at TJ.
