With his new album, Alex Clare shows his potential in a truly jaw dropping way.
Alex Clare was destined to create music that became an instant hit on the radio. It has also found its way into the iPods of many people. The most recent album released is The Lateness of the Hour. This album was released on May 1st.
Clare’s top-seller, Too Close, is now a worldwide sensation thanks to the help of many Internet Explorer Commercials. With the help of these commercials, the artist has recieved countless more fans. This recognition has developed a much stronger fan base in which to expand. Too Close has a very diverse spread of sounds. Guitar, piano, and very clean singing, that has a range like the countless notes on a guitar fret board. His voice is definitely something that can’t be shown by just five lines on a sheet of music. It’s inevitable that this song demonstrates the capabilities of Clare as an artist.
Up All Night is another song that seemed to catch my attention from this album. As you can probably tell, it is pretty self-explanatory what the theme of the song is. This piece is very upbeat and quick which makes it very interesting to listen to. It also makes it extremely easy to get stuck in ones head all day. If some are not interested in that one, I suggest they listen to it.
Another song I was drawn to was Tightrope. To me this song means that life is very similar to a tightrope. People get on, and try to balance their way across, without falling. But there are those occasions where we do “fall” and we just need to dust ourselves off, and get back on the rope. A quote from the song to help prove my point is, “When all you work for, comes tumbling to the ground. Don’t let the sadness fill your heart, tomorrow may be a better day.” This song has a very unique sound to it, that snags the listener like two magnets attracting each other. One thing that helps to attract the listener are the sound effects edited into the song during production. It has a subtle dubstep quality to it
Clare has put The Lateness of the Hour together very well. It is the type of album that you can just sit down to and relax. It is simplicity that makes this album what it is, even though there are many sounds happening at the same time. This is a very good album by a very good artist, with incredible lyrics that will have you singing in your head all day.
