TJ Spartans, the time is near: finals are approaching and as exciting as that may sound, is everyone prepared?

After months of getting used to the new school year, starting new classes, and working hard to get schoolwork done, it’s time to end the year with one final push. Finals week will run from the 16th to 19th of December before Spartans are free for winter break until January 6th. Finals will start on Tuesday the 16th, where students will take finals for periods 2, 3, and 4 from 8:20 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., each final spanning 90 minutes. On Wednesday the 17th, students will take finals for periods 5, 6, and 7 from 8:20 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. On Thursday the 18th, students will take finals for periods 1 and 8 from 8:20 a.m. to 11:25 a.m.

After students returned from Thanksgiving break, they had only two weeks to get all missing assignments in and work as hard as possible to achieve the grades they wanted. As eager as everyone may be to drop everything and coast through the next few weeks, be aware that after finals week, students will be unable to make up any assignments or tests or turn in any other classwork. In order to finish the first semester off with success, students should take a deep breath and open their Chromebooks to get through all the classwork they can.

It is understandable that everyone is burnt out and ready to go home until next year. Plans have been made for winter break, whether it be vacation, sleeping in, or celebrating the holidays. Rather than slow students down, finals should motivate them to finish the year off strong. If Spartans get the last of this semester’s school work done, they will be worry-free for their break.

It’s time to use all of the studying techniques students can find. Now is the time to ask teachers questions about how to prepare, recommended studying methods, and any help students may need. There are endless methods of studying students can use such as creating a study schedule, explaining different concepts to friends or family, creating flashcards, or making mock quizzes using Kahoot and Quizlet. It’s not too late to catch up on work, get grades up, and ask for help.

A message from photography teacher Lea Rabon: “Take care of yourselves and remember that turning in a missing assignment, no matter if it’s complete, is better than not turning it in at all.” Everyone does work differently and learns differently, and as long as students make one final push to get through the year, they should be successful. Good luck on finals, Spartans!
