TJ students have the unique opportunity to work in hospitality and building this summer.
Many students here at TJ have been scrambling to find summer jobs, and spots are running out fast. However, Embassy Suites has given the students the unique opportunity to have a job close to the neighborhood and with decent, hourly pay.
One of the great benefits from this opportunity is that the new employees will receive experience in the hospitality industry. The official job postings include; restaurant bus person, housekeeping houseman, and restaurant servers. All three jobs are unique and offer something different. The first two jobs require a minimum age of 16 and the restaurant servers require a minimum age of 18. A restaurant bus person is the assistant to the server, stocking service stations and clearing tables. This job is on the weekend evenings with nine dollars an hour plus tips. A housekeeping houseman is also on weekends offering $10.15 an hour. This job requires maintaining a high level of cleanliness in both the rooms and public places within the building. The final job, the restaurant server requires serving food and beverages in a friendly and efficient manner, and pays $8.27 an hour plus tips.
For those not interested in serving and cleaning who would rather build things, Children’s Play Structures and Recreation is offering jobs for students with drivers licenses. Students must be able to lift at least 80 pounds, and overtime work through the summer is expected. It is a job with flexible hours that requires employees to build play structures on school grounds, and pays $13-15 an hour.
