The class of 2010 and its sponsors are doing a great amount of fund-raising for their senior social, which will take place at the Denver Aquarium.

At TJ, one of the biggest financial worries students have is how they are going to afford an unforgettable senior prom. The class of 2010 and their sponsors, teachers Kimberly Holtman and Aimee Witulski, are working hard to accomplish exactly that.
Holtman said, “We’re selling T-shirts, we’ve done car washes, we’ve had students volunteer to work at in Invesco Field, and we’ve done the BeauJo’s fundraiser, and all of these things have gotten us a considerable amount of money towards prom.”  Holtman runs a stand at Invesco Field to raise money for her annual Europe trip; however, she usually needs extra volunteers, so when seniors from the class of 2010 work, they earn $75 per person towards their class budget.

“So far our fundraising has gone extremely well. The BeauJo’s pizza fundraiser was a lot of fun and it received a lot of support, not only from the senior class but from their families and students from other classes,” said Senior Class President, Rebecca Holt.

According to Holtman, plans for prom are on the right track to impress students. “So far, we’re in good shape. We have a great venue, but it is a little more expensive, so we still need more money,” said Holtman. “Prom is going to be held at the Denver Aquarium, so it requires a little more than any other venue; we need more security and volunteers, etc.”

A unique thing about this year’s prom is the fact that the aquarium’s exhibits will be open to students from 8:00 to 10:00 pm. “We need the most chaperons during this time because it might get a little stressful with eager seniors running around an exhibit, so if any teachers or parents are interested, it is much appreciated!” said co-sponsor Aimee Witulski.

According to Holtman and Witulski, since money is still needed to make prom tickets more affordable, it is important for students to support these fundraisers. “We aren’t stressing out about money, but we could still use some. Students are encouraged to bring fundraising ideas to either Mrs. Holtman or myself so we can raise more money. The more money we have the better prom will be,” said Witulski.

Some new fund-raising ideas are already being thrown around for the future. There is another BeauJo’s fundraiser planned for February 10th. On this day, when any TJ students visit BeauJo’s Pizza, 20% of the money they spend there goes towards the class of 2010. Also, the possibility of designing a new class shirt has become available.

Another factor that helps the class of 2010 is the fact that Witulski and Holtman make such a good team. “We are both coaches and coach opposite seasons, so we can cover for each other while one of us is busy. Also, we just seem to harmonize really well,” said Witulski.
