Tutoring Center/Intervention Teacher Wauneta Vann will travel with TJ students to Switzerland and Italy from June 6th through June 15, 2011. Vann said she organized this trip abroad because she wanted to give students the opportunity to broaden their horizons, to let them see the world, and adding that, “Everyone has a personal duty to travel and see the world, otherwise they get stuck in their own little corner. To become a well rounded person you have to go out there and travel.”

Vann says she planned this trip with the intentions of it being an unforgettable and educational experience for her and the students. “I would like for the students and myself to have an amazing time, and bring back with us the wonderful European culture,” said Vann.

Any Thomas Jefferson students who wish to go must sign up and pay the enrollment fee no later than October 8th, to ensure that they can go to Zurich, Lucerne, Florence, Rome, and other cities within Italy and Switzerland, as well as secure the price for the trip. It is only $95 to save a spot and payment plans and fundraising are available. The price for students is $3,391, which includes round trip airfare, transportation, accommodations, meals, tour director, and sightseeing. “Price is only an obstacle if the student lets it be an obstacle,” said Vann, who has many fundraisers lined up to help students with the price, including Village Inn Night, Holiday Pies, Cookie Dough sale, and personal sponsorship letters, to mention a few.

This excursion can be an enjoyable one, Vann says, and it can also be a learning experience. “I feel like it’s such an enriching experience if you get to see the world. The world has so much to offer and I hope it will open their minds to what is out there; other cultures can change the way people think,” said Vann.

This expedition is open to any TJ student who is interested in going with Vann, who made it clear that she can’t wait to go. “Oh man, I’m so excited! I think it’s going to be great. I love to travel, I’m fun to travel with, and I dream about this trip all the time. Sometimes I wake up speaking Italian!” she said.
