TJ’s Football team recorded their first win of the season on Saturday, October 9th against the Lincoln Lancers with a dominant final score of 40-0.

The football team, after falling to five consecutive opponents for the start of the season, came into this game looking to restore its winning tradition and get back on the right track for the season. The team took no time striking first in the game when Lonnie Hampton rammed the ball into the end zone from the one yard-line in the first six minutes to get the scoring going. The offense easily displayed their power and prowess in the running game and ran the ball with tailbacks Lonnie Hampton and Denzeal Truesdale all over the lancer defense.

Also, the Spartans got the job done on special teams with a fumble recovery off of a Spartan kick off by Senior John Jones and a blocked punt and recovery by Brandon Tara to give the Spartans great field position and set them up for scoring drives. At the end of the first half, the Spartans led 27-0 with touchdowns by Brandon Gonzales, who scored on two quarterback keepers, and Lonnie Hampton who broke free for a 40 yard scoring run.

In the second half, the game was more of the same with the offense running the ball with authority against the Lancers, and the defense holding the Lincoln offense to less than 100 yards on the ground or through the air. Robert McMacken, who scored on a 30 yard passing play from Quarterback Gonzales, said, “It’s great to be back on the winning track. Hopefully we [TJ] can take this momentum into our next game and the rest of the season.” As the whistle blew for the completion of the game, the scoreboard displayed TJ’s dominant performance with a score of 40-0.

Next up for the Spartans will face the George Washington Patriots who they will play on Saturday, October 16th at 1:00 p.m. at All City Field. As Senior Defensive End Ian Melnicoe said, “We [TJ] need this win against George if we want to keep our season alive.” With the Spartans being the away team, they need all the fan support they can get, so make sure to find yourselvers at the game, Spartans.
