Against a strong South offense, TJ remains winless on the season.
Under South’s Phillip Lindsay’s strong rushing attack, and TJ’s ineffectiveness to move the ball, the Spartans suffer another tough loss to swallow, with a final score of 39-7.
The day wasn’t off to a great start when the first play from scrimmage for the Rebels was a touchdown. The ball was handed off to the electric running back South Rebel Lindsay, and he took it to the end zone with a 70+ yard run. This set the tone for the rest of the day for the Rebels. They were able to slice and dice their way through the TJ defense for most of the first half. TJ was, however, able to put points up on the scoreboard in the first half, for the first time this season, with a slant route run perfectly by wide receiver Antonio Clark. Clark broke some Rebel tackles and easily scored a touchdown. The score was 20-7 going into the half.
When the second half started, TJ’s defense played exceptionally well. They not only got South into 3rd and longs, but also created multiple turnovers. The problem the Spartans had was that the offense had a hard time moving the ball. They would get into South territory and either commit too many penalties, or go four and out. Loyal TJ fans sat in the All City stands with frustration on their minds. The only thing they could hope for was that TJ stayed in the game, and they would come out next week able to compete at a higher level.
The next shot TJ has for a win is against a tough Lakewood team on September 30th at Jeffco Field.
