It has been a very long summer for Colorado.  The weather is just starting to cool down, but the state just had the hottest August on record.  Heat is usually not a problem for our community, but this heat wave has been out of control.  Luckily for us, fall is just beginning, and with it will come cooler weather and many activities for the populace to enjoy.  Fall activities usually center around Halloween and Thanksgiving, but there are also other activities to do in the community.

Festivals can be a very fun way to spend a day in the fair autumn weather.  Colorado has many festivals to offer, and some of the biggest ones are coming soon.  Starting in October, every weekend will be Fright Fest at Elitch Gardens Theme Park.  This homage to Halloween is a yearly event in which people wear costumes to the theme park, where there are haunted houses, and kids can enjoy the trick-or-treat walk through the kiddy land.

For those still interested in Halloween events, October 8-9 is Pumpkin Fest at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield’s pumpkin patch; a great place to pick ripe pumpkins for Halloween, and more there will also be many other activities to partake at the festival, like a working farm with live animals, a tour of a historic ranch, and carnival rides.

Halloween has many more events to offer, but not all festivals are made for holidays.  The Starz Denver Film Festival is an activity that must be experienced by lovers of independent cinema.  Starting November 2, and ending the 13th, this film festival features hundreds of independent movies from around the world.  According to http://www.denver.org, Indiewire (a film industry and filmmaker resource for independent and documentary film news) named this event one of the top 50 film festivals in the world.

Another art related festival is Denver Arts Week, November 4-12.  This is one of the biggest festivals of the year, with tons of content to keep people entertained such as: ballets, local art shows, kid friendly activities and war stories from Veterans on November 12th.  One of the biggest parts of this festival is the popular Night At The Museums where many of Denver’s 20 museums, and 100 art galleries, are free of charge.  Really these eight days of art are a celebration of the Mile High City’s artistic vibe and creative community.

Denver is filled with celebrations and festivals year round, but the ones in the fall are some of the best.  These four activities are the biggest and most lasting fairs this fall, and they are a great way to enjoy the season.  Obviously, Denver’s mountains change a lot in the fall, and hiking and driving through them is another great way to have fun.  Fall’s prolonged arrival is just on the horizon, and festivals, activities, and seasonal changes are coming with it.
