Thomas Jefferson High School Offensive Lineman Christian Carpio and Defensive End Brandon Murray elected to sign with Adams State on National Signing Day held on February 4th.
Christian Carpio achieved first team All-League this past year and has been a standout varsity performer for the past two seasons. Brandon Murray has been starting on Varsity for two years now, as well as having made a significant contribution his Sophomore year.
“It feels good to see that I am finally being rewarded for all of the hard work that I have done my entire high school career,” said Murray, who is the first one in his family to receive an athletic scholarship and has been receiving praise from his entire family. Murray will be playing defensive end at the next level, which is a position that he is mighty comfortable with, as it is what he has played all throughout high school. Murray also believes that he may get some serious consideration for the tight end position.
As for Carpio, the news came as a big relief. “I am very happy that this long hard process is finally over,” said Carpio. Upon hearing that his teammate Murray would be joining him, Carpio was very ecstatic. “It is very good to be with a four-year teammate of mine. Brandon is someone who I can trust, and someone who I can share this future experience with. It should be a fun ride,” he said.
No one on the football staff is happier than Assistant Head Coach Matt Nicolo, “I am extremely proud of Christian and Brandon. Anytime someone plays at the next level it is a testament to their talent and dedication,” said Nicolo. Both players will be joining former TJ star DJ Short who is currently in his freshman year at Adams Sate. “DJ is a great guy; it’s nice to go to school with a TJ graduate.”
Both Carpio and Murray can now relax as their time for panic and worry has turned into a time of relaxation and enjoyment in their final months in high school, knowing that their collegiate careers are about to take off.
