TJ baseball posts a record of 2-1 in DPL thus far, in inconsistent season.
The Kennedy Commanders traveled to TJ on April 3rd and dished up a combination of consistent offense and hardy defense, and the Spartans couldn’t find a way around it.
The Commanders’ pitching tamed the TJ batters the entire game, and accompanied that with offensive surges in the 4th and 5th innings, which resulted in a hole out of which the Spartans couldn’t dig themselves. A late, 4 run 7th inning comeback push was not enough for the struggling TJ baseball squad, and the fell 7-4 to Kennedy.
“Kennedy surprised us. We didn’t think their pitching was as good as it was and this game definitely surprised us. We really need to regroup after this loss,” stated Junior Brennan Henry.
The Spartans did indeed bounce back and stuck it to the Lincoln Lancers 4-0. Sophomore Kyle Freeland pitched the shutout, and the Spartans committed no errors the entire game. The victory improved the Spartans’ DPL record to 2-1 and their overall record to 3-6. “We really focused on what we needed to do to win. We pitched well and got hits when we needed them,” said Senior Sam Thomas.
The Spartans’ next game will be against Palmer Ridge on Friday, April 10, at 4:15 pm.
