TJ falls to Valor Christian in a blow-out.
On the heels of a 3-0 loss to Palmer Ridge Friday night, the mighty Spartans played host to the Eagles of Valor Christian on what seemed to be a beautiful day for baseball. However, the result of the game was not what the Spartans had hoped for, as they fell to the Eagles by a score of 19-5. After struggling through the first inning, Spartan Sophomore Chris Van Dyke was able to find the strike zone, pounding it for a total of nine strikeouts in only four and two thirds innings.
Offensively, the Spartans were lead by Senior Sam Thomas who belted another home run for the Spartans. Sophomore Trevor Thornton continued to swing a hot stick as he had two hits in the game. The Spartans’ problem in this game was their porous defense that finished the day with eight total errors. “We did not hit, and we did not play defense, plain and simple. We must improve on those two crucial parts of the game if we want to get on a roll,” commented Sophomore Pitcher Kyle Freeland.
This loss now brings the Spartans’ record to 3-8, and decreases their chances of being able to make the State Tournament. The TJ squad is going to have to get on a roll if they would like to still be playing come May. The next game for TJ will be on Wednesday, April 15 against Eaglecrest at All City Field, and will start at promptly 4:15.
