The Boys’ Hoop Squad won their seventh straight game Tuesday night, defeating the Aurora Central Trojans 64-51.
The Spartan crew has begun to play the way that was expected of them when they were ranked as the 2nd overall team in the Class of 4A in the pre-season. The Spartans trailed early in the game as the Trojans’ hot shooting jumped them out to a 15-0 lead before the Spartans made their charge.
The Spartans caught a break when the Trojan center injured his leg. After seeing that, Head Coach Grant Laman instructed his team to go into a defensive press. The press worked as the Spartans forced countless turnovers, which turned into high flying dunks by Seniors Ray Riley and Zach Jackson. “When their big man went down we tried to take advantage of that, so the press really helped. We just did what we needed to do,” said Laman.
The Spartans also got offensive contributions from Seniors Chris Carter and Billy Sprague. Carter specifically regained his shooting stroke as he hit several three point field goals to help put the game on ice. “This was a quality win for us; this just gives us more momentum going forward,” said Junior Guard Miles McIntosh.
The boys will look to make it eight straight wins as they next play host to Westminster High School. The game will be on Thursday, January 14, and will be at TJ and will begin at 7:00 pm.
