April
You, who was blissfully unaware, gone.
Dreams of inhabiting distant worlds, gone.
The belief in the irrational, gone.
A vivid, rich, and untainted world, gone.
Emerging from the depths of darkness, the
exuberant sounds from your chest heal you.
Laugh lines eliminate the anxiety and huhs,
Restoring your candlelight and worldview.
April Fools: a day of unrestrained laughs.
Your permission slip to test the limits
of your imagination and have a blast.
For all that matters is every minute.
Laughter: a reminder of what you lost,
But what you still have: joy despite the frost.
May
Throughout time, humans have sought warm summers,
Loathing the icy temperatures and
foul moods as everything worthy is covered,
Yet winter births all that leaves us stunned.
Spring: a marvelous time to wonder as
the natural world awakens, writing
a new chapter, giving all that it has
to become a force that is reuniting.
Frost bids us farewell while the skies open,
Showering earth with heavenly water,
And reviving everything once broken
As rain imbues life into all like laughter.
Winter: a reminder of what is coming,
A beauty forged through ice that is numbing.
This Instagram post had me reconsidering everything for a brief moment as it announced the new study abroad program on Mars at the University of Chicago on April 1. photo by UChicago
