The first Spirit Week of the year is quickly approaching, and with it comes many exciting events.
As school has been in session for close to a month, the annual Homecoming dance is right around the corner, along with an activity-filled week. Members of Leadership and Administration have worked hard to organize plenty of fun events in order to kick off the school year.
The lineup for this year’s Spirit Week looks to be very exciting. Senior Delina Abraham said that Leadership, the class that helps to organize school events, tried to “brainstorm ideas they thought students would like best and be most popular to get participation.”
To start the week, students can roll out of bed and wear comfy PJs and slippers on Monday. Tuesday features Country vs. Country Club – with, but not limited to, cowboy boots and hats, or polos and tennis skirts. Continuing the week, Wednesday is inspired by the two incredibly popular movies that came out in July: Barbie vs. Oppenhiemer. Students can dress as one of the many versions of Barbie or lean towards the detective-like, classy vibes of Oppenheimer. Wrapping up the school week is Thursday, with Mathletes vs. Athletes. Spartans can show off a scholarly outfit or put on running shorts and tennis shoes.
Since there is no school on Friday the 22nd, the pep rally will be held towards the end of the day on Thursday. Administrators will host a tailgate to celebrate TJ day and end Spirit Week on a high note. The tailgate will start at 1:30pm. Everyone’s favorite principal, Mike Christoff, will be grilling food for those who attend.
Junior and senior girls will also compete against each other in the annual Powderpuff game. There will be more time for the girls to play football since the game will not be taking place during the lunch period. Assistant Principal Jon Poole is excited for the changes taking place on Friday as the girls “won’t be so crunched for time, making it more of a fun event for everyone to enjoy, potentially even parents.”
The Spartans will face off against Standley Lake, taking place at All City Stadium at 4 p.m.. The hope is to get as many people to the football game as possible. Stay tuned into Spartan Edition for more details regarding the Spirit Bus. It is important to keep in mind that the bus will not be bringing kids back to TJ, so students will need to arrange for transportation home from the game.
Lastly, the week will come to a close with the Homecoming dance on Saturday. Unlike the past few years where the dance has been held outside, this year it will be in the gym from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.. The theme is “neon,” so there will be neon lights, balloons, and plenty of other interesting decorations. Tickets to the dance will be sold during lunch every day during Spirit Week. Tickets for singles are $15, and tickets for couples are $25.
Things may be different this year from the previous few, but there’s plenty to look forward to for Homecoming Week. Remember to show your school spirit and support your fellow Spartans!
