The spirit of Homecoming is sure to make for some special memories.
As the school year progresses, students will soon be walking the red carpet to Homecoming. Leadership and Administration have created a spirit week filled with fun themes. With all the buzz, Spartans are anticipating the upcoming events.
Spirit week will start off strong the week of September 23rd with Monday’s theme of Movie Night In, which features students wearing their pajamas and slippers to school. That same night TJ will also host the powderpuff game which is a flag football game between the girls in the junior and senior classes. After that, TJ will have its annual bonfire where a large fire pit is set up in the parking lot and Spartans can eat food and spend time with their friends. Tuesday is Dress as Your Favorite Celebrity day and Wednesday’s theme is Pop vs. Rap, so students can represent some of their favorite music artists. To wrap up the week, Thursday will be TJ Day with the Homecoming pep rally in the afternoon.
To keep spirits high on the Friday when students don’t have classes, TJ will host a tailgate before the homecoming football game. Similar to last year, TJ’s principal Michael Christoff will grill food for anyone who attends. Students can come grab some food, hang out with friends, and then head over to All City Stadium where TJ will face off against Longmont at 4 p.m.
At the homecoming football game, students will hopefully pack the stands while the senior class leads the student section’s chants. Then, during half time, the administration will announce the Homecoming court and announce the Hall of Fame induction. Students nominated for royalty will then walk onto the field with their families as the crowd cheers them on. The nominees for Homecoming royalty are decided by teachers, coaches, and other TJ staff. After homecoming royalty announcements, Christoff will introduce a few TJ alumni and he will give a speech about each of them.
Finally, on Saturday September 28th at 8 p.m., students will attend the much anticipated Homecoming dance. The theme for this year’s dance is TJ Goes Hollywood. Students will dress up in their nicest outfits and have the time of their lives. The dance will be held in the gym with streamers, party lights, and an amazing DJ. The dance will take place from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Throughout the week, tickets will be sold in the lobby at lunch. Single tickets are $15 and double tickets will be $25.
With all the exciting events happening, it is the perfect time for the TJ community to come together. Hopefully, if most of the Spartans participate during homecoming week, it will make for a lively scene. So Spartans, show up and show out!
